The play Hamlet is a very interesting and unique play that deals with situations that the average person would never have to go through. Throughout this play a reader will read mind boggling things that almost make everyone seem crazy or insane. One of the scenes that had a great impact on the play and its understanding is Scene VII of Act IV. In this scene Laertes true feelings come out. At one point an emotion comes out that is never presented throughout any other part of the play. This scene gives the reader better understanding on play by displaying what anger can cause someone to do. It also displays how desperate Claudius is in trying to get rid of his nephew and step-son Hamlet. In this scene Claudius pretends to mourn alongside Laertes calming him down and explaining why he did nothing himself. Claudius attempts to seize Laertes anger and direct it entirely toward Hamlet. Claudius cares less about what has happen to Polonius, Laertes and Ophelia’s father, and cares more about protecting himself and his throne, which Hamlet is endangering. Claudius throughout this play takes extreme steps in his attempt to kill Hamlet. Through this one should understand the true necessity that Claudius feels toward killing Hamlet. Hamlet, to Claudius, is threatening his throne and Claudius feels that he must take the essential steps needed in order to ensure that he remains king for as long as possible.
