WORKPLACE DIVERSITY Introduction In accordance with Section 18 of the Public Service Act 1999, the department is required to establish a Workplace Diversity Program to assist in giving effect to the APS Values. The Workplace Diversity Program will: encourage employees to develop their work skills and contribute to their maximum potential; recognise and value diverse skills, cultural values and backgrounds; introduce workplace structures, systems and procedures to assist employees to balance their work and personal life-styles responsibilities; and establish procedures to evaluate and report on the effectiveness and outcomes of the Workplace Diversity Program. The aim of Workplace diversity is to ensure that: workplace differences are valued as good practice; employment decisions are based on merit; workplaces are free from discrimination and harassment, and recognise the diverse backgrounds of employees; personal life-style responsibilities are recognised; and any employment related disadvantages of women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people from a non-English speaking background and people with disabilities are remedied.
