Machiavelli but there are also some similarities. Throughout the course of my essay I will examine the political thought of Plato and of Machiavelli and I will look for the similarities and differences. I will also deal with how their visions of political life differ. Plato has been labelled as the first political scientist due to his application of reason and inquiry to political systems in his most famous work “The Republic”. He was born in ancient Greece circa 428BC. He founded his proposed system upon a carefully thought out ideal life, where government and governed would work together as a community presided over by philosopher kings Niccolo Machiavelli was separated from Plato by two millennia and a great deal had changed in government, society and philosophy.
