Whale Extinction Extinction is currently one of the environment’s most considerable problems. Natural extinction is an expected and inevitable process, but when animals become extinct due to human actions, the issue becomes controversial. Due to commercial whaling, as well as several other variables, these whales are included in the threatened species list, meaning that extinction is very possible. In order to prevent the absolute depletion of these species the International Whaling Commission should help protect these species by banning scientific research on highly endangered whales. As whaling stopped in the early 1900’s, the reason for the species' disappearance is hotly debated. Collisions with ships, entanglement in fishing nets and used for scientific research are thought to be prime causes. Thousands of whales are unnecessarily slaughtered each year. They are killed barbarically and are hunted to almost extinction for what whalers consider scientific research. This is unfair and pointless to have people around supporting whale hunters.
