kites
KITES Kites have had an interesting role in many cultures over hundreds of years. Most people think that kites first came from China, circa 1,000 B.C. A famous Chinese guy Hungshu Phan from fourth century B.C. is credited with the invention of “a wooden bird that flew for three days without descending.” Chinese folklore has stories of kites flown for fun and purpose. They were also used for military needs. General Han Hsin used a kite to measure the distance between his forces and the walls of a palace, in order to figure out the distances his people might have to dig, so his troops might gain entrance. Huang Theng , whose army was surrounded, had them build a lot of kites fitted with noise makers and flew them in the night above his enemy’s army.
