Social Studies Essay Mohandas K. Gandhi, also known as Mahatma Gandhi was both a simple and a complex man. His actions and beliefs not only shaped India’s history but also showed the world a new weapon that was very powerful and used to fight against injustice. His powerful new weapon was civil disobedience, which was refusing to obey laws considered unjust. Mahatma Gandhi’s nonviolence protests were his way of getting people’s attention to what he thought was unjust. Some nonviolent protests orchestrated by Gandhi were fasts, boycotting British clothing, and burning of the passbooks. One of the most famous protests was the Salt March. This march was to protest against the salt tax law and British rule over India.
