Since rap music hit the mainstream, white America has criticized it for its violent, sexual lyrics that seem to encourage teenagers to follow suit. Eminem is one of the most persecuted and misunderstood rappers still producing. “Sing for the Moment” by Eminem captures rap culture by explaining why and how teens relate to the lyrics, by describing why artists continue to write and sing, and by refuting middle class criticisms of rap and rock.
