SMS Self management skills are techniques and abilities used to effectively and efficiently use time. Appropriate and correct use of SMS skills results in higher self esteem, stronger direction, higher level of time use, less stress, less pressure, more approval, more success, improved reputation, higher efficiency, improved amount of joy in life, higher task enjoyment, improved resilience and higher achievement. Goal setting and timelines, unfortunately, was a low point in our Health promotion, definitely on my part. I feel that I could have and should have used my past experience to promote a stronger organisation and lead the group, instead I didn’t. I set no goals, it was definitely we will take it as it comes and set the goals when they need to be set. This resulted, in running round on the presentation day, taking time away from my other subjects and stressing a lot. I felt a constant sense of misdirection and confusion, I had no plan for the workload and this made me receive less joy from our work and the consequences of not goal setting meant I felt less satisfaction from our work due to things being ‘finally done’. Delegating tasks was also a low point on my part. Kim was a definite leader in our group, and due to our friendship and Kim’s personality, I would’ve felt uncomfortable questioning her leadership if I felt tasks should’ve been delegated differently. This was the only problem though, as the tasks were delegated well by Kim and we had efficient use of each member’s natural talents. This has a direct relationship with contributing effectively, as each member did work that was best suited to them. I was particularly useful in the original planning stages, research stage and performance development process. I found this was because of my previous experience with Health Promotions. I enjoyed being able to help and having the respect of other group members, resulting in higher self esteem, stronger group relationships and improved efficiency due to a higher motivation to work.
