There have been many great leaders throughout our history. Some leaders have had major impacts on people. One of these leader’s is Susan B. Anthony. Susan B. Anthony was a great leader to all women because she had a vital impact on gaining women’s suffrage. She is a big part in why women are respected greater today. Susan B. Anthony was born on February 15, 1820, in Adams, Massachusetts. 1820 was a good year to be born Susan B. Anthony (Barry, 5). The generation of women born in the 1820’s, were the first to start a political movement of women in the United States. Susan was the second of seven children. Her mother, Lucy Read; and her father, Daniel Anthony; were married in 1817. They had their first child, Guelma, in 1818. The eight children; Guelma, Susan, Hannah, Daniel, Mary, Eliza, and J. Merritt; were born only sixteen years apart. All of the children survived birth, but Eliza died a year after her birth in 1833. The Anthony’s were Quakers. Quakers are a religious group. They believed in hard work. The Quakers had a saying that was “All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy. All play and no work, makes Jack a mere toy” (Barry, 11). After the Anthony children would work, then they would go play in the Berkshire Hill. In the winter time, they loved to play in the snow. Her father did not allow the children to play with toys, games, and music.
