A patient¡¯s poem reminded John Stone, the author of Listening to the Patient, ¡°not to overlook one other obvious attribute of literature: The writing of it can be therapeutic in and of itself.¡± Does literature really, like John Stone thinks, have the power of healing patients? I think so too. From my own experience, a good literary work can heal a patient by emotionally strengthening him. Nowadays, even though we have these technological devices such as television and computers, literature still plays a significant role of our daily lives simply because there is nothing that can replace literature. I think everybody remembers that when they were little, their moms used to read a peaceful story to get them to sleep every night, which is probably everybody¡¯s very first contact with literature. A successful book embodies the abundant emotions of the author, pulls the readers attentions, and makes the readers feel the same way the author feels.
