There are many contrasting factors in life, because opposites attract. When contrasting views are used as literary elements they often carry a theme or idea with them. Without opposite situations the reader would not receive the main points and expressions. In the short story, “Heart of Darkness,” by Joseph Conrad, the Inner station differs from the central and outer stations because of the contrasting atmospheres. The central and outer stations are unique in that they have a differing ambience than the inner station.
