Gender Roles
As a child, we are very unaware of who we are and definitely who we’ll one day become. Social interaction within the social setting plays a large role in shaping our personality. And, understanding one’s gender role has an all-around impact here. Developing into a man or woman takes much more than just hitting puberty and acquiring a jolt of hormones. By socially interacting with the environment around them, children are able to process information which seemingly shapes their gender role. Even as a toddler I was somewhat aware of what it meant to be a boy or a girl. How? The media. For many, many moons now it seems as if the media has set a standard for what little boys and little girls look like. It’s all in the colors: pink and blue. Even at the hospital, babies who’ve just popped out of the womb are color coordinated with pink and blue gowns.
