"Boy at the Window"
"Boy at the Window" The theme in "Boy At The Window", by Richard Wilbur, is about having the will power to overcome the desires that "we" sympathize due to the limited boundaries that exist. The main parts of speech that are used to carry out the theme, as well as the subject matter are: irony, personification, simile, alliteration and imagery. Irony is "the use of words to convey a meaning that is opposite of it's literal meaning or idea" (RHWCD 691). This figure of speech is used in the whole story line of the poem. I say this because in the poem that boy was at his window looking at a snowman. That boy was crying because in his child mind he thought and was concerned of the snowman being cold. As this boy cried with grief and sadness, the snowman "concerned" about the boy, deep inside felt that he should go inside with that boy; however the solution was ironic.
