Avreeayl Womack Oral Communication 101 Public Speaking Prof. Haley 5/10/03 Water I. Introduction A. Attention Getter: What is 70% of our bodies and 70% of Mother Earth? Easy question right? You guess it, its water. Water is all around us, we use it for showering, cleaning, foods, beverages and we even spend our vacations trying to get to some sandy white beach so we can relax ourselves in the clear blue warm water. B. Thesis: Water is an essential part of human life, however most of us tend not to drink enough water on a daily basis. C. Specific Purpose Statement: To inform my audience about the significance of drinking enough water daily. D. Credibility: Through my research and because I have been practicing drinking adequate amounts of water for years, I am qualified to inform you about the benefits of drinking water. E. Preview: First, I am going to talk about water and its correlation with the body. Second I will talk about how much water should be consumed in the summer, winter, exercising and in general. Third I will talk about water and weight loss. Last I will discuss the importance of drinking good water versus drinking bad water. Transition (Let’s take a brief yet detailed look at how the body is affected by water.) II. Body A. According to the International Food Information Council and Physicianschoice.com, water is 2nd to only oxygen for the essentials of life. Also according to Physicianschoice.com, “Articles and Health Tips”, water also does the following: 1. Water is used in the blood to transport nutrients, oxygen and glucose to all parts of the body. 2. Water also carries wastes to the kidneys for elimination from the body. 3. Water aids in digestion and relieves constipation.
