Malcolm X
The 1960's was a time of controversy. A time of protests, boycotts, marches and speeches. A time for civil rights. The most remembered of the Civil Rights activists is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. But there was another man who made almost as much of a difference as Dr. King did. That man was known as Malcolm X. On May 19, 1925, Malcolm Little was born. During his time in from 1949-1952 for burglary, he committed himself to the Nation of Islam and legally changed his name to Malcolm X. While there were many fascinating aspects to Malcolm's life in the 1950's, his true fame came from his work in the 1960's. Malcolm first gained fame on March 3, 1960 on the radio show "Pro and Con." He debated with William James on the topic "Is Black Supremacy the Answer?" From this point on, Malcolm X would be known as a radical Civil Rights activist who would support any means of gaining superiority with "the man." Unlike Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X wanted not equal rights.
