Throughout his entire life, Karl Marx experienced extreme poverty and exile. These experiencees ultinately lead to the birth of communism. The class struggles that he witnessed in Europe put the American meaning of "rich" and "poor" to shame. There was no middle class. There was no chance of bettering yourself because of class stigma. Karl Heinrich Marx was born on May 5, 1818 in Trier, Prussia. Which in that time period was a part of Rhineland. He was the eldest son of nine, in a lower social class.
