"Say Yes"
In the short story "Say Yes" by Tobias Wolff, he tells a story about a husband and a wife debate on the subject of whether two person from different race or background should be married. The whole story is written in a third person point of view, as if the author hears the conversation between the husband and the wife from their kitchen windows. The story takes place when the wife is doing the dishes and the husband is trying to help to dry them. The wife begins questioning the husband whether he thinks a black person should marry to a white person, and she really digs for the answer that the husband would respond. The husband has a strong argument that two person raised from different background would not likely to get alone in term of a marriage. The wife, however, extend the question a little personally. She asks that if she is black, would he consider to marry her. The husband doesn't like the topic she is onto. He has to be careful to choose a right respond to backfire at her but yet does not try to piss her off as she has already being emotional, and he knows the only answer she would expect to hear from him is to say yes.
