The Future Is Here: The University of the 21st Century Through the ages, the university or the Academy has withstood the ravages of time and tide. It has withstood the Roman conquest, it has faced the Mongul plunder and it has faced the Nazi purge. The university as an institution, as many purists would point out, is invincible to the designs of man. It is indestructible and the most enduring and alluring of all human institutions. In the purest sense, the university as an institution is the source of knowledge and intellectual discourse. It’s halls are the temples of intellectual worship where only the deity of Truth reigns and where the mind is always mightier than the sword. It is steeped in tradition and each university jealously guards its tradition and its name. To be a student in an university is not merely about learning but more importantly it is about experiencing the hallowed life of a knowledge-seeker able and willing to subdue one’s own ego under the tutelage of a superior mind.
