Monday when the Parks’ case was due to go to court. They distributed the anymous fliers throughout Montgomery on the Friday morning. Then came in Martin Luther King Jr who was minister at the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church at the time. He had the idea that if they could get at least a 60% co-operation the boycott would be a success. Mr King was then pleasantly surprised when bus after empty bus rolled past his house in the early morning. King later wrote that “A miracle had taken place”, and “The once dormant and quiescent Nergo community was now fully awake”. The group that organised the boycott met again and decided to call them selves the Montgomery Improvement Association (MIA) and elected Mr King as their president.
