Edgar Allen Poe the greatest, most famous, unhappiest, and tormented American poet and short story writer. He was and still is known for his horrifying poetry because of his extremely troubled life; even his name is synonymous with the two words horror and terror. One main reason that he was the master of this kind of writing is that he had lead an extremely disillusioned and troubled personal life which had fueled him, even from when he was a baby to the day he died. Edgar Allen Poe was born in Boston Massachusetts on January 19th in 1809, to parents who were itinerant and traveling actors. His father David Poe Jr. died in 1811 when Edgar was just two years old. Shortly after that his mother died of tuberculosis, which is caused by the tubercle bacillus and will primarily affect the lungs.
