Johannes Kepler (1571-1630) Johannes Kepler was born in Weil der Stadt in Swabia, in southwest Germany, not far from France. Kepler was born on December 27, 1571, a premature child. He was a mathematician and an astronomer. Kepler is most famous for his discovery of the three laws of planetary motion. Also, to a lesser extent, he is known for his work on convex lenses. Furthermore, he also gave the modern explanation of the workings of the eye. He brought about the acceptance of the heliocentric concept. He truly believed in the Copernican system, so he saw the planetary orbits as six concentric circles.
