Organ Harvesting
Although there are people who are willing to donate their organs after death, there are also some like the prisoners of China who are being killed and their organs are being stolen. Actions need to be taken to protect the rights of those who don not give their consent to this escalating problem. The organ harvesting frenzy started when Dr. Barnard successfully completed the first ever heart transplant in 1967. Since then the “need” or “wanting” for organ transplants has rapidly grown. In 1996 20,260 transplants were done and the shortage for organs also increased all over the world. In America alone there is over 70,000 people on a waiting list. China has the highest execution rate and the family can only give consent to have their dead donate their organs. Sometimes it is hard or they cannot contact the family so they do they transplant anyway.
