Elizabeth Murray is an abstract painter who was born in 1940, in Chicago, Illinois. Elizabeth received a BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from Mills College. She currently lives and works in New York City. Murray is a painter who injected new life into contemporary abstraction through her expressionistic style, complex-shaped canvases and forms that were deliberately ambiguous. Unconscious thoughts and emotions are translated into dream-like images that float in a timeless field suggesting mutability and change.
