Media in Argentina
Argentina is one of the most literate countries in South America and supports a wide variety of books, magazines, and newspapers. Clarín is an independent media group that is a leader in Argentina and is projecting its activities into Latin America and the rest of the world and is similar to our large media corporations here in the United States. The impact of the United States within Argentinean television and other sources of media is something that most Americans do not acknowledge or have the slightest clue about. As a free country, our lifestyles impact the lifestyles of the world around us. Jacobo Timerman is a journalistic hero that has come out of Argentina and made an impact all over the world. The three major objectives that have shown significance within Argentina are Clarín and its media sources, the impact that the U.S. has on television in Argentina, and Jacobo Timerman being one of the most recognized journalists to have come out of Argentina. Since the foundation of Clarín newspaper in 1945, printed media has been undoubtedly the basis on which the development of the Group and the fulfillment of its commitment to the community have been built. The editorial policy of Clarín is based on the primary principles of independence, pluralism and commitment to democracy and republican institutions. With the highest circulation in the Spanish language, Clarín's success is based on the quality of its contents and design, its continuous renewal, its offer of new products, and its reach into all levels of society. Olé, the first sports newspaper in Argentina, won over a new generation of readers with its dynamic and informal style. Grupo Clarín, together with La Nación newspaper and Grupo Correo, has a stake in Cimeco, a company formed with the objective of developing a network of printed media in the provinces and also in the region. Audio-Visual contents are another of the mainstays of Grupo Clarín’s strategy. Its artistic, news and sports output is acknowledged for its quality and professionalism. Artear Argentina is the company which produces Canal 13 in Buenos Aires, one of the two leading broadcast television channels in the country.
