Book/ Movie Review: Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King Jr. was an African- American who during the 1950s and 60s helped obtain African American rights and was a leader in the civil rights movement. He led a mass struggle for racial equality that doomed segregation and changed America forever. Three things that I learned about him are: 1. He struggled for equality in non-violent ways such as in boycotts and marching. 2. He greatly influenced America through his strong speeches and writings. 3. Lastly, he helped blacks get their voting rights. Rosa Parks, a college-educated black seamstress, made history in Montgomery, Alabama. She boarded a bus, took a seat in the gWhites onlyh section, and refused to give up her seat.
