It is said by society today that the most permanent and binding way of becoming a not-biological parent is by adoption. Adoption is the legal way in which tho establish the legal relationship of a parent and a chuild not already so related, There are a number of types of adoptions. Single parent adoption would not even be an option around 1970, where if you applied for a child as a single parent you would have been turned down automatically. It was hard for a single parent in some states to adopt a child because it was laws against single parent adoption.
