Nature
Elizabeth Bishop, Rainer Maria Rilke, and Alden Nowlan recognizes awareness in nature their respective narrative poems, "The Fish," "The Panther," and "The Bull Moose." Their works regard humans’ part in life and death of nature. In Bishop's poem, the speaker catches the fish and after examining it, he or she decides to let the fish go on living. Bishop creates sympathy for the fish, "Like medals with their ribbons frayed and wavering, a five-haired beard of wisdom from his aching jaw"(61-64).
