Anglican leaders in the United States have approved the appointment of the Church's first openly gay bishop. More than a hundred Episcopalian bishops - meeting in Minneapolis - voted to endorse Canon Gene Robinson as Bishop of New Hampshire after he'd earlier been cleared of allegations of sexual misconduct. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, has warned of difficult times ahead as a result of Canon Robinson's appointment. The funeral of the Government weapons expert, Doctor David Kelly, takes place today. The service will be private, and Doctor Kelly's family have asked the media to stay away. The Deputy Prime Minister, John Prescott, yesterday apologised to Doctor Kelly's family for remarks made by the Prime Minister's official spokesman, who's said to have referred to the scientist as a "Walter Mitty-style fantasist".
