Sunil Kamadolli Civics Hnrs per5 Chapter 5: Public Opinion America is a diverse country. Different cultures, races, region etc co-exist. In a country with many “public opinions” it is easier for the formation and cleavages in public attitudes. The formation of smaller groups in turn creates cleavages with other groups. This increases the diversity in public attitudes. The three areas where this is evident are: religion, gender, and education. These three factors are few of many factors that account for the formation of political attitudes also contributes to the cleavages in public opinions. Firstly, America is a place with various religions. Factors like social status and religious traditions unite a certain religion or a group of religion. But this also increases the cleavage in political attitude with the other religions.
