It was the day of my 12th birthday when it happened. It was a warm, summer afternoon and I was lying comfortably on my bed with the cool morning breeze whisking onto my face from the open window. The smell of the fresh blueberry pancakes drifted into my nose as I began to rise out of bed. It was the day that I would be treated like a queen. The day I would get special care and attention. It was my kind of day. “Come downstairs and eat your breakfast before it gets cold!!!” My mom hollered at me. I raced down the stairs to the kitchen table and stuffed my mouth like there was no tomorrow. It being my birthday somehow made the pancakes a lot tastier than usual. “So what do you want to do today?” I usually spent my birthdays with my mother. My mother is my confidant. Unlike many girls I know this day and age, my mother and I get along fairly well.
