Teaching with Lies Not everything we hear from our parents, relating to the past, is a truthful representation of what really happened. Maybe they exaggerate to teach us a lesson, or to make us feel fortunate for our “many blessings.” It’s comical how the older generation always has it so much harder than the new. It may be an age epidemic. After you reach a certain age these stories and amplifications begin to pop into your head uncontrollably. Or it may be gained with becoming a parent along side ulcers and hair loss. Whatever way one catches this disorder, it has manifested in me. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about how good my daughter has it, how fortunate she is, “Why didn’t I have these things when I was growing up?” Then the sickness comes out; “I remember walking to school 10 miles in the snow, barefoot, in shorts and a tank top.” I have grown to believe that all parents are inflicted with this ailment.
