Mother vs. Daughter In the book the Joy Luck Club, by Amy Tan, there are many relationship issues described. It shows the relationship between mothers and daughters, daughters- in- law and mothers- in- law, and also lack of communication between spouses in marriages. The main issue that goes on in this book would be the relationship between a mother and her daughter. In many cases in America, daughters and mothers rarely get along, so the relationship diversity with the Chinese culture is very much the same. In the first few chapters Amy Tan writes about what the mothers went through on the journey to America and why living as a Chinese woman was so bad. In a day to day family, parents raise their children like they were raised. In the Chinese culture there are many things that the women did not like. One of those things included not being able to have a good relationship with their mother or mother in law. Suyan Woo was one of the mothers that had to journey to find her husband during World War II.
