For: Bushfire strategy requires a rethink The government should create buffer zones through dangerous areas. The government needs to re-evaluate the environmental policies to avoid categorization as environmental vandals. There were no adequate fire control measures. Due for a reward Citizens in need of welfare should give something back to the community; the government should give something back to those who perform vital community work. Government should pay money for the firefighter. Against: No easy control for necessary part of natural landscape The Victorian landscape is the third most fire-prone region in the world. Fires have been around for tens of thousands of years. And beside, the area is too big. The government couldnˇ¦t afford it. Even if the state could afford it, the impact if frequent is every five years or so. The fuel reduction burns would be devastating for some animals and forests. So, there is no simple way to protect the environment from bushfires. Blame it on nature We canˇ¦t protect a leafy community bordering forests from a one in 100 or 200-year bushfire holocaust.
