HOW A BILL BECOMES LAW
There are laws in America that cover every topic under the sun. In fact, there are so many that we will never know some of them exist. Although we may not ever know every law of this country, we should all be familiar with how a law is created. A law starts out as an idea. Somewhere, someone, or a group of people, have an idea about a certain way something should be. (This does not necessarily have to be a politician. But it’s helpful to know one at this stage.) If the idea sparks some interest in the mind of a congressman, he can decide to sponsor it as a bill. This means that the congressman agrees to introduce and support the bill throughout the process. The congressman first introduces the bill in his branch of congress, either the Senate or the House of Representatives. After the bill is presented, it is assigned to a committee, which in turn assigns it to a sub-committee.
