generation gap
the generation gap is one of those characteristic issues that separate homo sapiens apart from the other animals.it is doubtful if ever the most intelligent of the apes ever blamed its juniors for their wayward ways!over the years men have tried to analyse it,explain it,even ignored it ,but it remains ,ready to confront each generation as it tries to formulate its own perspective about life and living.two aspects of generation gap are -the chronological and the psychological.the chronological gap between two grnrations is an irrefutable fact of life that stares us in the eye like adolscence and menopause.the life and times of two generations cannot be alike thanks to modern reasearch ,progress in science, faster and easier communication and even distateful thinks like population explosion and inflation.these changes in course of time influence our way of thinking, our attitudes ,expectations, behavioural patterns and values.chage is must for society to survive whether we accept it or not aspart of God's will.the new must replace the old to retain the refreshness in living.ideally the best in the old and the new must be incorporated for best evolutionary results.unfortunately this is easier said than done as each generation continues to feel threatened by the next ,causing much heart burn and tension and the generation gap takes place.in essence the generation gap is tug-of-war of change versus stability, new versus old, modern versus traditional.it does not have to become and this is important ,a tug of war between age versus youth.in fact it need not take the colur of confrontration at all.with the onset of adlthood and maturity muh of restlessness and rebillion mellows and the individual learns to appretiate the the need for stability and change.on the other hand the older contenders ,who were overzealous in their aspirations to rear a perfect individual ,too have aged and become increasingly aware of their own mortality.they learn to lower their defenses and the friction eases considerably
