Oedipus rex essay
Tiresias says to Oedipus – “Your enemy is yourself” What is the extent of Oedipus’s guilt in his downfall? In the tale of the Theban legend “King Oedipus”, it shows both Oedipus was a victim of fate and of his own actions [freewill]. To a certain extent Oedipus’s guilt contributes to his own downfall, but it wasn’t his destiny to suffer. The fact that Oedipus was not responsible for his actions means he can’t be seen as the only person responsible for his own downfall; since he was seen as a “puppet of fate” to the gods.
