Paper II
Big Burger was established in 1980 by opening one outlet in Manchester. In 1982, our founder decided to open another three outlets. Our founder then kept on expanding the business and after years of hard work and motivation; there were over 145 outlets in the United Kingdom in the year 1987. By the end of 1994, there were over 500 branches. This was due to the success of the outlets that were set up pre 1987. We now employ approximately 3,000 people. When we decided on Newbewick being a good location to open our latest addition to the chain of outlets, we had to discuss and decide on a number of factors: The first factor that we had to consider was the cost of the land including parking costs. In this factor, we firstly had to decide to purchase or rent the land. As our stay in Newbewick seemed to be permanent and the cost of land in the area was not that expensive, we decided to purchase the land. Then we had to decide if the council Newbewick could provide us with adequate drainage. We need adequate drainage because we are a restaurant and always clean our premises and equipment on out premises in the interest of hygiene and the cleaning methods we use involve producing a large amount of waste that needs to be drained.
