1984
Book Report-1984 by George Orwell A Journey through the Eyes of a Totalitarianism Victim “Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.” This Party slogan reoccurs throughout the book and symbolizes the psychological manipulation used to control the minds of people under its wrath. 1984 is a terrifying prophecy into the future written by George Orwell in 1949, the same year that the Soviet Union exploded the first atomic bomb. Orwell writes 1984 powerfully, convincing the reader that the totalitarianism society portrayed in the book is completely possible and realistic. 1984 is an interesting and valuable read because of its excellent conveyance of mood, the portrayal of the main character as an anti-hero, and consistent use of irony throughout the book. The mood in 1984 is expressed so well that the reader is left with a convincing feeling of oppression.
