“The Gospel of Matthew” reading identifies several of my own personal values (eternal life, trust, forgiveness, and love), which I have gone into more detail below. The reading begins with the Beatitudes, which describe a standard of conduct for Christians. In each Beatitude, Jesus tells how we can be blessed by God, and what we should be like as Christians. I agree that we will be blessed by God if we follow the guidance Jesus gave in the Beatitudes, no matter how hard it is and no matter what the cost. For instance, enduring persecution can be good for us because it makes us stronger; our endurance through it serves as an example to others; and God will reward us by receiving us into His Kingdom (eternal life) where there is no persecution.
