Oedipus Rex
Sophocle’s Oedipus Rex is an undisputed tragedy play that explores the aspects of human life. One of the debates raised from the play concerns Oedipus’ actions: Is Oedipus a victim of fate or were there ever times when he could have prevented his downfall? This long-standing issue, when examined in detail, probes deep into the moral and religious values of the past and present societies. The primary reason that supports Oedipus’ innocence is the inevitability of fate. Even in today’s society, it is believed by many that what the oracle said or what was written on the prophecy will always be certain.
