There are seventeen species of penguin and they are only found in the Southern Hemisphere. Each species has adapted to cope with varying climates ranging from the Galapagos Islands to the pack ice of Antarctica. Penguins are designed for life at sea. They have a streamlined blubber-filled body and powerful flippers, which enable them to slice through the water at great speed. A stiff tail acts like a rudder so that they can easily change direction.
