Henry Clay Work's "Marching Through Georgia"
There is Hope During wartime, hope holds people together. Without hope, there would be no purpose for doing anything. Henry Clay Work’s song, “Marching Through Georgia,” shares of the hopeful Union marching through Georgia defeating the South during the war. Within the rhyming and phrasing of the lyrics, it convinces the South that happiness and joy lie behind the reasons the Union is fighting. To be in opposition to the Union would be all the things less of what Work describes in his song. Throughout the song, Work uses strong rhyming words in each stanza creating a strong bond in each verse. The unity of the words depict the Union as strongly bonded with the purpose of fighting for unity, freedom, and joy.
