Guitars have been a prominent instrument in the American culture, originating in the 1500’s in Spain. Though guitars have been used throughout American history many people do not know how the acoustic guitar works. Though it looks like a simple instrument, casual research reveals that it is much more complex than it looks. Guitars are a complex instrument that has evolved greatly since its beginnings. Looking at a guitar, one would think that when a person strums a string, the vibrations from the string results in sound waves that are heard. However that is not true. A sound wave is basically a disturbance of the air, however a string by itself doesn’t disturb the air much, resulting in little sound.
