The government expects new operators to activate within one year 150,000 fixed lines in remote rural areas where Hondutel does not operate, adding 45% more lines to the 334,000 operating today, Pyramid analyst Dennis Burke said in a report. From 2005, the market will be fully liberalized and the rival operators will be able to move into Hondutel's operating area. Operators will sign identical agreements with Hondutel to provide local, national and international calls for businesses and individuals, Pyramid said. Operators will be free to set their own prices for voice and data services. Interconnection with Hondutel will be free until end-2005, after which Hondutel will receive 70% of the cost of terminating an incoming international call, as well as a fee for calls to mobile phones.
