stereotype was degrading and disheartening. Women were viewed as feminine, dependent, and emotional. Of these common stereotypes, women being dependent is displayed everywhere in society. It is customary for the male to go out and work in order to support the wife and family. However, in “The Glass Menagerie” much of Toms melancholy and sadness is due to his family, Amanda and Laura, depending on him. The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, in short, is about an overworked man named Tom.
