“Daughter of Invention” September 12, 2003 “Necessity is the mother of invention.” There is many sayings in the English language that we are all used too, but these are foreign to people speaking foreign languages. In a short story titled “Daughter of Invention”, written by Julia Alvarez, a Spanish speaking family moves back to the United States, from the Dominican Republic where there father was going to be arrested, as a result the mother confuses these English sayings.
