“The True Purpose of Help” Why is it when someone offers their help, it’s almost always partly for their own benefits? People in general now days will not bother to help you unless it in someway, benefits them. There are many examples of this in literature. An example of this is, Doodle’s brother in the story “The Scarlet Ibis,” by James Hurst, is determined to fix his “invalid” brother, however his reasons are his own.
