Diabetes Diabetes is a condition in which the amount of glucose (sugar) in the blood is too high because the body cannot use it. Glucose comes from the digestion of starchy foods such as bread, rice and potatoes and from the liver which makes glucose. There are two different types of diabetes, type one and type two. Type one is where the body cannot produce any insulin. It is treated by insulin injections, a specially controlled low sugar diet, and regular exercise is advised. Type two is when the body can produce insulin, but not enough to balance the glucose being taken in.
