Emo is a form of punk music. It stands for emotional. It is a bit softer then punk however, sometimes it is just as hard. There is a cult like following of young love-struck or heartbroken adolescence following emo music and bands. The musicians tend to be very whiney and the lyrics are all similar having to do with angry broken hearts and hopeless romanticness. Some emo bands are dashboard confessional, death cab for cutie, action toolbelt, fallout boy, mae, rufio, so4plan, the early November, alkaline trio, brand new, and 1000s more. I believe that because emo is all about issues of the heart, it is the reason that teenagers tend to be drawn to it.. They have a connection to it like no adult could possibly have because they are at that awkward age where love is everywhere and they cant control their hormones.
