Contrasting Narrative Essay William Bradford and William Byrd were two English colonials whose narratives had many differences. There was a substantial difference in the events, themes, writing styles, tones, etc, between these two narratives. The author’s backgrounds were related, but their thoughts and beliefs on certain issues, such as religion and techniques used on settling in the new world. Bradford and Byrd had clashing issues dealing with the Indians, as well as their basic purpose for journeying to the new world. The narratives of William Bradford and William Byrd had many contrasting issues and beliefs on settling in the new world. Starting with the background of the narratives, Bradford’s narrative deals with the Puritan religious rebellion from England, while Byrd’s deals with the English colonization of the new world. The author’s styles of writing of writing are different, because Bradford uses a plain style and Byrd uses a satirical style. “These wretches were set ashore, some fatal disagreement or laziness, and were either starved or killed by Indians.” This quote describes the criticizing and ridicule style of Byrd, while Bradford uses more of a narrative type style where he is outside of the story with no bias expressed or used.
